To many, they are comfortable of the life to come because there is no death. However, it is important to know what kind of life they will live. To better understand death, we must understand what life is. Whenever death appears, it is life manifested. Jesus said these words in John 12:24 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.” Here it implies that whenever man is subjected to death, there is life about to manifest.
Now, life is divided in realms and spheres. When one says he is eternal, it is different from when he says he is immortal. The promise to man has always been eternal life. This promise was given before man sinned – this is the reason man was created i.e. to participate in eternal life. Some folks do not understand really what eternal life is. Firstly, eternal life was not promised to man because man sinned, nay, before sin man pursued eternal life.
1 Tim 6:15-16 “Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.”
From the above scripture we now understand that God gives life to every creature. The life of angels is different from our life. Life comes from one source but it is different to creatures. What makes Jesus be immortal is because He dwells in an unapproachable light.
It is important to learn that God is not immortal but eternal. The promise to man is eternal life yet he has to pass through immortality first for in it are all states of light. So, from mortality to immortality to eternal life.
Note as well that Jesus is eternal life: when it is said in this manner, it shows the completeness of God in the Son. God prohibited man to eat from the tree of life after he fell because man could have become immortal in a state of sin.
